MP heartened to hear of city firms’ success

WORCESTER’S MP Robin Walker has been out and about on his patch visiting growing small businesses.

First he dropped in to Materials Solutions on Great Western Business Park and then Cundey Systems on Shrub Hill Industrial Estate.

Mr Walker said: “Both are small businesses in growth mode, budding exporters and great examples of co-working between business and universities. It is great to have such businesses in Worcester and as MP I was pleased to be able to offer them both my help with looking at apprenticeships through the National Apprenticeship Service and opportunities to export through UK Trade and Investment.”

Materials Solutions uses powdered metal and laser beams to produce precision parts for the aerospace industry and other highly demanding customers such as Formula One teams. The business began at the University of Birmingham, moved to Worcester two years ago and employs 11 people.

Mr Walker said: “It is good to see a exciting local success story where a manufacturing business based in Worcester is selling to big international names such as Rolls-Royce, Mercedes and Sumitomo”.

Forestry machinery manufacturer Cundey Systems is part of a network including Lynrose, which manufactures steel profiles in the same facility and is receiving support from its parent company, Malthouse Engineering at the site.

Mr Walker said: “This is an exciting growth story and one which we are lucky to have had move into the heart of Worcester. I’m particularly delighted to see Midlands firms working together with Midlands universities.”
