Teatime at care home
8:00am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A BROADWAY care home is inviting people to tea next month as part of a campaign to tackle isolation and loneliness among older people.
Bupa care homes has teamed up with the Tetley Tea Folk for Communi-tea Week, which runs from March 11-18, and is calling for people to design a tea cosy for their leader, Gaffer.
Brompton House Residential and Nursing Home, in Station Road, will open its doors to those who may be struggling on their own to come and meet new friends over a cuppa.
The tea cosies, which can be either knitted or designed on paper, need to be submitted to Bupa by the end of Communi-tea Week for the chance to be crowned as Gaffer’s Communi- tea Cosy.
Five designs will be selected and go before a public vote via Facebook.
The winning design will then be available as a knitting pattern, with 10 per cent of sales being donated to Age UK.
Tracey Fletcher, Bupa’s customer services director, said: “This is a great opportunity to put the kettle on, get creative and reach out to someone you know who may be lonely and get them involved.”
